It is a Faith, not a genre
Shout out to the Homie Karl Nova for blogging this… a lot of people ask us what we label our music… this response from Jon Foreman of Switchfoot completely captures our heart… except we aren’t a rock band lol.
“For us, it’s a faith, not a genre. We’ve always been very open and honest about where the songs are coming from. For us, these songs are for everyone. Calling us ‘Christian rock’ tends to be a box that closes some people out and excludes them. And that’s not what we’re trying to do. Music has always opened my mind — and that’s what we want.”
“My faith, I mean, that’s such a personal aspect that a lot of times, of course it’s going to come out through the song. But at the same time, I’m not a religious salesman. I feel like God doesn’t really need a salesman, and what these songs are simply my interactions with this life and learning. I guess the bottom line is the songs are really honest, you know what I mean. That faith is going to come through. If the listener is looking for it, that’s definitely a part of it.”
“You’re boxing it in. I would like to think that the music that I make is best with claws and teeth, instead of being locked up in a cage. As a band we’ve always been very deliberate in making music for everyone. And we’ve never changed that. If we’re going to define our music it would just be honest music for thinking people. We’ve always called ourselves a rock band and tried to stay away from anything that would limit our audience. For me, my faith is a really personal, important part of my life, and it’s much bigger to me than a musical genre”
— Jon Foreman, lead vocalist of Switchfoot
Show at House of Blues SD with Wu & Mobb Deep was incredible.
We had a blast last night opening up the Rock the Bells tour at the San Diego House of Blues. Shout out to all the Breax Heads who paid $30+ for tix and only came out to see our set. That’s love. The homie R-Swift joined us for “Imagine Together” & killed his verse.

U2 Tops Forbes List of Highest Paid Musicians

Read the article
here
This is significant for a few reasons.
1. As many of you may know, U2 is my (Ruslan) favorite band.
2. It shows that positive, clean, uplifting music from a biblical world view can reach mainstream pop success (perhaps not Hip-Hop… yet)
3. It debunks the theory that every famous musician sold their soul to the devil or joined a secret society. Bono is one of the most out spoken celebrities about his faith and is very solid theologically. Don’t believe me, read this article that’s probably been quoted by your favorite Pastor.
Very Insightful interview with Shad via the Chop Shop [VIDEO]
Check out this interview with the homie Shad as he touches on faith, whether or not religous labels should be applied to music and what he thinks about “theology rap”
Shout out to Chop Shop for doing a great interview!
Ozone Mag interview Lecrae & Tedashii [VIDEO]
If you guys ever had questions about our faith and how we want to use Hip-Hop music to help change the world check out this interview that Ozone Magazine did with Lecrae & Tedashii.
They communicate some great points about “secular music”, not condemning the world, and connecting with culture that capture our heart… especially from 7:15 to the end of the interview
